The Twelve Kizuki Explained (Anime Timeline)

The Twelve Kizuki are Muzan Kibutsuji's personal army of elite demons, each granted a portion of his own blood to push their strength beyond an ordinary demon's limits. Membership is split into two bands — six Upper Moons and six Lower Moons — with rank denoted by a numbered crescent tattoo somewhere on the body.

Rank within the Kizuki is not fixed: Muzan periodically reshuffles the numbers, executing demons who fail him and elevating replacements. A demon can be demoted, and in at least one case shown in the anime, killed by Muzan himself for the position to be reassigned.

The Lower Moons introduced across the anime include Enmu (Lower One), the demon behind the Mugen Train's dream-manipulation trap; Rui (Lower Five), the Spider Family's "father" from Mount Natagumo; and lesser-seen Lower Moons such as Mukago, Rokuro, Wakuraba, and Kamanue, most of whom are dispatched relatively early in the story.

By the time of Infinity Castle Part 1, Muzan has grown openly contemptuous of the Lower Moons' overall performance, a running thread that culminates in a brutal reorganisation of the entire Kizuki roster.

The Upper Moons are dramatically more dangerous than their Lower counterparts. Akaza (Upper Three) headlines the Mugen Train arc with his fight against Rengoku. Gyutaro and Daki (Upper Six, sharing the rank as siblings) dominate the Entertainment District arc. Hantengu and Gyokko (Upper Four and Five) anchor the Swordsmith Village arc, alongside Nakime (Upper Four's replacement, a demon who manipulates the Infinity Castle itself through her biwa).

Doma (Upper Two) and Kokushibo (Upper One) are the two strongest Upper Moons shown in the anime. Doma's serene, unsettling demeanour masks a Blood Demon Art built around ice and lotus motifs, confronted directly by Shinobu Kocho during Infinity Castle Part 1. Kokushibo, a demon who was once a peerless human swordsman, wields Moon Breathing and stands as the most powerful Kizuki beneath Muzan himself.

Muzan Kibutsuji is not counted among the Twelve Kizuki — he is their creator and absolute master, the progenitor of every demon in the story including Nezuko. His Blood Demon Art reshapes his own body at will, and his obsession with conquering sunlight drives the entire demon-slayer conflict.

Infinity Castle Part 1 pits the Hashira directly against the strongest of the Kizuki inside Muzan's shifting fortress. This guide stops exactly there — anything beyond that point is outside the anime-canon scope of KimetsuDle.
